12/10/2016 - Again About Prayer
.
It is not my intention to write about topics of prayer that many already know about such as what prayer is or why prayer is essential for the Christian life or whether or not God listens to our prayers. I have some questions in my mind though, and I want to share them with you. The first one is if God promised to listen to our prayers, why do so many prayers remain unanswered (at least from our perspective)? In spite of the fact that Jesus encouraged us to ask "anything" in His name, we cannot see His promise fulfilled in our experience. We pray, we listen to many theological explanations about prayer, but what we really want is to see more visible evidence of His divine presence in our lives. Let's take a prophecy/promise about the time of the end, "Servants of God, with their faces lighted up and shining with holy consecration, will hasten from place to place to proclaim the message from heaven. By thousands of voices, all over the earth, the warning will be given. Miracles will be wrought, the sick will be healed, and signs and wonders will follow the believers--GC 611.  Do we now live in the time of the end? Would you like to see this promise happening before our eyes this year? We have many other promises like this in the Word of God. When will we be able to join as a group of prayer warriors and see these miracles happening? First, we have to admit that we do not know everything about prayer because prayer is a matter of relationship between humanity and divinity and because we are so limited in our understanding of the realities of this world.  Also, it is not just up to us how and when the miracle will happen even though every answer to prayer is a a miracle.  Our duty and privilege, at the same time, is to pray, to trust in the Lord and to have faith that our prayers are heard and that God is able to do even more then we asked. We read in the book of Acts "After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit... " Acts 4:31. Where is this power in the people of God in our days? When we have the same spirit of prayer and faith like the Christians of the early church and when the Spirit of the Lord has full access in our lives, God will do for us what He has done for them. "Lord, give us your Spirit- a spirit of prayer and intercession - so we can be able to see your miracles in our Christian experience."
